Season Tryouts
2024-25 Jackson Moose Try-outs
Try-outs will be for Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget Teams
The 2024-2025 season try-outs will be very thorough, and our evaluator selection process will be based on skill, ability, fundamentals and numerous other factors. Evaluators are all third-party employees for tryouts and are not directly involved with any team in JYH.
We will conduct try-outs over two (2) weeks for the upcoming season. Evaluators will be non-parent coaches and are independently hired by Jackson Youth Hockey. The evaluators do NOT have a child in JYH and are only given rosters with a jersey number and NO NAMES. All evaluators will be held to the highest standards of evaluating the players and at no time will there be any conflict of interest with the evaluations.
Parents will NOT be allowed in the rink other than to tie skates and get their player(s) dressed for try-outs. Once the players hit the ice ALL parents must leave the rink. NO SPECTATORS will be allowed in the rink while conducting try-outs. We will follow these guidelines to ensure our players have the best opportunities to excel and present to the evaluators for grading and placement on teams for the 2024-25 JYH season.
Week 1 of Try-outs
October 14-17, 2024 (Monday through Thursday)
Each age level will have 2 sessions per week and group assignments are listed in the next page.

Additional Important Notes
All Mite practices for these 2 weeks will be cancelled due to tryouts.
Parents are not allowed in the arena during tryouts. Evaluators, coaches, and refs will not be able to help your player get dressed or tie skates.
Tryout jerseys will be handed out immediately before the first sessions. Parents must make every effort to have your player at the rink at least 10 minutes early.
If you declare you are trying out as a GOALIE, you MUST participate as a GOALIE for the entire try-out process. No player will be allowed to switch their position after try-outs have started.
If your son/daughter chooses NOT to participate in try-outs the evaluation committee will place you on a “B” team at random.
If at ANY TIME, you are NOT able to participate you MUST in writing notify the ED Eric Ballard (director@jyhockey.org).
Please be responsible for reporting any matters so we as evaluators understand the situation, so we can make the necessary adjustments.
Tryout Format for Each Level
Squirts
All Squirts that are trying out will be split into 4 teams and consist of 2 groups of the 2 teams. These groups (Group 1 and 2) will be randomly selected and divided equally to make two teams for each 45-minute session.
Each session will include a 5-minute warm-up followed by a 45-minute full-ice game.
Following week 1 we will shuffle teams and players at the evaluator’s discretion for week two try-outs. Rosters will be emailed to parents by Friday October 18, 2024, for week 2 rosters.
Thursday October 24, 2024 will be the final day of tryouts and the team rosters will be sent to all parents on or before Midnight on Friday October 25, 2024 by email.
Teams will include one A team and one B team.
Peewees
All Pee Wees that are trying out will be split into 4 teams and consist of 2 groups of the 2 teams. These groups (Group 1 and 2) will be randomly selected and divided equally to make two teams for each 45-minute session.
Each session will include a 5-minute warm-up followed by a 40-minute full- ice game.
Following week one we will shuffle teams and players at the evaluator’s discretion for week two try-outs. rosters will be emailed to parents by Friday October 18, 2024
Wednesday October 23, 2024 will be the final day of Peewee tryouts and the team rosters will be sent to all parents on or before Midnight on October 25, 2024 by email.
Teams will include one A team and one B team.
Bantams
All Bantam players will be split into two separate teams. Players may be moved to a different team at any time at the evaluator’s discretion.
Tuesday October 22, 2024 will be the final day of Bantam tryouts and the team rosters will be sent to all parents on or before Midnight on October 25, 2024 by email.
Teams will include one A team and one B team.
Midget
All Midget players will be split into two separate teams. Players may be moved to a different team at any time at the evaluator’s discretion.
Wednesday October 23, 2024 will be the final day of Midget tryouts and the team rosters will be sent to all parents on or before Midnight on October 25, 2024 by email.
Final rosters will include one A Varsity Team and one B Junior Varsity Team.
We understand that this can be a very stressful time for the players and parents. We ask that you encourage your player to give his/her very best and make every effort to be on time.
This experience will ultimately help your hockey player in so many different areas and we at Jackson Youth Hockey take this process extremely serious. We want the experience for your player to be one they will use in future sports or life.
